The Agribusiness & Food Industry Management/Agricultural Education Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for a tenure-track twelve month appointment in Agricultural Education at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning January 1, 2010. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Position

The successful applicant will teach and develop courses in undergraduate, graduate, and teacher education courses in agricultural education. Serve as director of the Agricultural Teacher Credential Program and coordinator of the Master’s Degree Program in Agricultural Education. Serve as a liaison between the Agriculture Credential Program in the College of Agriculture and Cal Poly’s Teacher Education Department. Supervise student teachers in agriculture. Serve as academic advisor to undergraduates, Master’s Degree candidates and credential seeking students in Agricultural Education. Serve as liaison between the secondary teachers of agriculture in the service area and University Agricultural Programs. Plan and conduct educational activities for the secondary agricultural teachers and FFA members in the service area. Participate in the activities of the State Department of Education Agricultural staff. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the ability to teach within other disciplines within the College of Agriculture. Teaching agriculture courses within the College of Agriculture outside the discipline of Agricultural Education will be expected. Minimum Requirements

An earned doctorate or an equivalent degree in agricultural education or closely related field is required. Three years of successful experience teaching vocational agriculture at the secondary agriculture level is required. Experience in agricultural student teacher supervision is required. Candidate must possess or qualify for a secondary agriculture teaching credential for the State of California. Knowledge of the FFA and Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs is essential.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

Experience as a secondary department chair and FFA advisor is preferred, as is teaching experience at the university level in Agricultural Education. Candidates must be committed to teaching, scholarship and working in a multi-cultural environment. The program is interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through teaching, research and service.

About the Agribusiness & Food Industry Management/Agricultural Education

The Agricultural Education Program is housed within the Agribusiness & Food Industry Management Department in the College of Agriculture. The program offers an undergraduate and Master’s Degree in Agricultural Science. Agricultural Education conducts the Teacher Education (Credential) Program in Agriculture. There are approximately 33 undergraduate majors, 9 Master Degree candidates, and 5 to 7 Teaching Credential candidates in Agricultural Education. These programs are the responsibility of one faculty member with the occasional assistance of a part-time lecturer in Agricultural Education.
