Course Description The discipline of community nutrition strives to improve the nutrition and health of individuals and groups within communities. Nutrition programming can occur in many community settings including health centers and clinics, hospitals, schools, places of recreation and worship, worksites, senior feeding centers and even shopping centers. Community nutrition encompasses any nutrition program whose target is the community, whether funded by the government (federal, state or city) or a private group (as in a hospital sponsored program or a worksite). This course examines the influences on nutrition and health within communities and their nutritional status. National, state and community nutrition programs and services will be discussed with emphasis on program goals and policy. The course also emphasizes program development and the role of needs assessment, development of objectives, implementation of interventions and evaluation of programs.
